AGE GROUP : 14 – 16 YEARS OLD
This course develops key reading comprehension and critical analysis skills essential for success in GCSE English Literature. Learners explore texts at word, sentence and whole-text level, building their ability to interpret meaning both literally and inferentially. Focus is placed on analysing plot, character, setting, and motivation, while distinguishing between explicit and implied meaning.
Learners evaluate themes and ideas through close reference to textual evidence and examine how context—social, historical and cultural—influences both writing and interpretation. The course also teaches precise evaluation of the writer’s choices in vocabulary, structure, form and figurative language, supported by accurate literary terminology. Comparative skills are developed throughout, encouraging thoughtful reflection on theme, characterisation, and literary style across texts.
